Workshops
I currently offer two workshops: Project Management for Academics and Mastering Technical Writing.

Project Management for Academics
Intended Audience: Academics from the Graduate to Professor Level
Modern academia demands that students, postdocs, and faculty work concurrently on many projects, often with multiple collaborators contributing to the project. Despite this, the traditional academic career path provides few opportunities to develop the management skill necessary to manage these many responsibilities. This is further complicated by the many other responsibilities of an academic, including teaching, securing funding, and administrative tasks, each of which limit the time one can spend on each individual project.
This workshop is aimed at improving the skills an academic needs to efficiently manage several projects effectively. It is based on extensive interviews with academics at different stages of their career, from graduate students to tenured professors. The workshop will be adjusted to meet your particular needs. It covers the essential strategies for managing complex projects in an academic environment, particularly:
- How to delegate and track responsibilities in large teams
- How to set effective goals and manage timelines in an efficient manner
- Recommendations for information management
- How to handle delays and unexpected challenges

Mastering Technical Writing
Intended Audience: Students from Undergraduate to Graduate
Technical writing is a ubiquitous skill for practicing engineers, scientists, and academics. Any university program in engineering or the sciences will involve technical reports and write ups for this very reason. However, it is a common experience to graduate from such a program and find yourself relearning the precise skills required for technical writing over and over for different contexts: reports to your peers require different skills than an executive summary readable to a layperson, writing for subject matter experts is different than writing for the general population of your field, and so on.
This workshop will break down the mechanics of technical writing to achieve the level of mastery you need to write effectively in any context. Approachable for students of all levels from undergraduate to graduate, whether this is your first foray into technical writing or you have mastered one style of technical writing and want to expand your expertise. This workshop will cover:
- Different styles of technical writing
- How to analyze your audience and adjust your style
- How to approach learning a new style of technical writing
- Helpful tips for writing beyond the classroom
