Who am I?
My name is Dr. Julie Barringer. I was born and raised in the Detroit area. I studied Material Science and Engineering at the University of Michigan, and I went on to earn my PhD in Material Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. My PhD research involved applying x-rays to study defects in materials for next-generation computing and energy applications.
I have 6 years of teaching experience in math, science, and engineering. I have taught topics ranging from introductory science and engineering courses to advanced university materials science courses. In 2024 I received a Teaching Excellence Award from Rensselaer in recognition of my outstanding work as a graduate student teaching assistant. I specialize in helping students master their course content and develop skills applicable to their desired career path.
In my personal time, I enjoy tabletop gaming, hiking, running, and cooking.
